Rules of Tennis

Scoring

To win a game of tennis, a player must score four points. The points are counted as 15 (1 point), 30 (2 points), 40 (3 points), and the fourth point wins the game. If the score reaches 40-40, it's called deuce. From deuce, a player must win by two clear points.

How to win the game

To win the match, a player must secure a specific number of sets: best of three for women and best of five for men. A set is won by the first player to reach 6 games, provided they lead by at least 2 games. If the score is 5-5, you need to win the set 7-5. If the set reaches 6-6, a tiebreak is played, where the first player to 7 points wins.

The Rules of Tennis

  • The game begins with a coin toss to decide which player serves first and which side they prefer to serve from.
  • If the server misses their first serve, they have a chance for a second serve. However, if they fail to get the second serve in as well, a double fault is called, resulting in the loss of the point.
  • If the server clips the net but the ball still lands in the service area, it is called a "let," and they can serve again without penalty. However, if the ball hits the net and does not land in the service area, it is called "out," resulting in the loss of that serve.
  • To win a set, a player must secure 6 games with a lead of at least 2. If the score reaches 6-6, a tiebreak is played, with the first player to reach 7 points winning. In the final set, there is no tiebreak; players must win by a margin of 2 games, with no limit on the score.
  • The ball is considered in if it hits any part of the line; if it lands outside the line, it is called out.
